Coach's Bios

Mark McCombs, Head Coach

Coach Mark has been a Shady Hollow Stingray since his family moved to Shady Hollow in 1998, and started swimming in summer league at age 4.  Everybody knows Breaststroke is his favorite stroke.  He was High School All State in the Medley Relay and All State and All American in the 100 Breaststroke.  He was captain of the Bowie High School swim team. Mark swam for Randy Reese at Circle C and Longhorn Aquatics and for the University of Incarnate Word.

Mark started coaching Special Olympics swimmers at the age of 14.  He has also coached Lost Creek USS swimmers and served as an assistant coach the past two years for Shady Hollow.  His love of swimming is evident in his enthusiasm around a pool.  His coaching philosophy is that summer league should be fun because a happy swimmer is a fast swimmer.

Chris Bily

Chris grew up in Shady Hollow, spending countless summers at the pool and swimming for the Stingrays. In school, Chris ran track and played football for the Bailey Bears and Bowie Bulldogs. After graduating high school in the top five percent, Chris enrolled at Texas A&M studying mechanical engineering. Continuing his involvement with the Stingrays, Chris started coaching and lifeguarding in 2007. At Texas A&M, Chris served as President of Pi Tau Sigma, Vice-President of Tau Beta Pi, and a Spring Leadership Delegate to Doha, Qatar. In summer 2009, Chris spent his free time beach side living in Galveston, Texas, interning at a sulfur facility. Graduated with his bachelor's, Chris is returning in the Fall to pursue his master's. Chris is excited to return as a coach and lifeguard for his third year.

To top it all of, she is an experienced and competitive swimmer that enjoys teaching people the sport she loves. This summer is going to be amazing and she can’t wait to work with each and every swimmer!

Stephanie will start her fourth year at Texas State University in the fall as Public Relations major with a minor in Music. During the summers, she is a general counselor, and coach, for ten year old boys at a camp in Copake, New York. Stephanie has always loved working with kids, but working at this camp has helped her find her passion for coaching. She swam with the Stingrays for four years in elementary and middle school and has since continued swimming recreationally. She is very excited to be back on the team again and see all of the swimmers improve throughout the season!

Coach Chandra

Chandra graduated from Bowie High School in 2004.  Attended Brigham Young University and graduated in 2008 with a degree in Chemistry.  She is currently certified to teach elementary and middle school.  Chandra has loved swimming ever since age 3 when she started swimming lessons. She swam with the Shady Hollow Stingrays for 2 years before becoming a coach.  She coached the SAA Barracudas for four summers before coming to Shady Hollow.  Other favorite past times include playing the violin, reading, participating in church activities, and spending time with her 6 brothers and sisters, 3 of whom are currently swimming with the Stingrays.  Go Stingrays!
